Moderate Snowfall Potential for Friday

Posted by ns62590 on February 19, 2008

While the computer forecasting models still differ in the timing of the potential storm on Friday, some aspects of the storm are starting to come together. We’ll get to that in a few minutes. First things first: tonight and Wednesday.

Another round of snow is expected overnight. However, as is the case with last night, don’t expect more than an inch or two. Most places won’t see snow until closer to daybreak on Wednesday. The bigger story with this latest round of winter weather will be the temperatures. Temperatures tonight will probably bottom out near 10 degrees, although some places may even make it to the single digits. It will be breezy too, so wind chills will be even lower than that. Expect the same for Wednesday night, perhaps even a little colder. Thursday will be the calm before the storm, where we might actually get to see the sun! Wow – Northeast Ohio isĀ great!

Now for the Friday storm. Like I said, nothing seems to be coming together from the models yet. There’s still a lot of differences between them. The main point I want to stress is that there remains the possibility of a decent winter storm Thursday night and Friday. Right now, it doesn’t look like a major storm, but we could see a few inches. Only time will tell so check back for updates. Have a good night.

Interesting Weather for the Week

Posted by ns62590 on February 19, 2008

Well, we finally returned to Winter last night and this morning. There’s more where that came from. Another system will move through the area tonight bringing another quick round of snow, still adding up to only an inch or two again. Along with the snow, arctic temperatures in the single digits are possible Wednesday night.

Now onto our Friday storm I’ve been talking about for awhile now. Still models are disagreeing on the timing of the storm. The NAM model shows precipitation not beginning until Friday midmorning, while the GFS starts the precip around 8pm Thursday evening. Until these model differences are resolved, I am reluctant to make any predictions on snow amounts or timing. If the NAM is correct, then we will probably only see about 2 or 3 inches with the storm. If the GFS is correct, we may see up to 5 or 6 inches.

Stay tuned for updates on the potential storm for Friday. As more information gets in, I will send an updated post later this afternoon or this evening. Have a good Tuesday everyone!
