Winter Weather Advisory!

Posted by ns62590 on February 25, 2008

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory for Mahoning and Stark Counties from 4am Tuesday through 4am Wednesday. A winter storm warning is in effect for Portage and Trumbull counties for the same time.

The storm that I have been predicting for the past week will be arriving tonight and last all day tomorrow and into Wednesday. There are still some minor discrepancies as to the certain precipitation type, but it appears that places in Mahoning and Stark counties will see some plain rain Tuesday morning, while it should stay cold enough across the rest of the area for just snow or freezing rain. Trumbull county can expect up to 8 inches of snow by Wednesday, while Mahoning County can expect about 4 or 5. Still, the storm will start out as a mix of rain and snow, so the morning drive to work and school may be a little sloppy, but more wintry for the drive home.

Stay tuned to NOAA weather radio, WeatherWATCH, and your local TV news media for the latest on yet another winter blast. Use extra caution while driving, and give yourself plenty of time and space. Stay safe and have a good night.

WINTER STORM WATCH

Posted by ns62590 on February 25, 2008

I will send out my normal update later this evening, but I was just adding this post to inform viewers that the National Weather Service has placed our entire area under a Winter Storm Watch for the storm approaching the area. This watch is valid from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. This will probably be upgraded this evening, so check back for details. The weather for this afternoon has already shown of the impending storm as clouds have overspread the area.

Here we go Again

Posted by ns62590 on February 25, 2008

Enjoy today because tonight and tomorrow’s weather will be problematic. We will be dealing with another winter storm, bringing freezing rain, snow, sleet and rain to the Mahoning Valley. Before I get to the details as of the morning model runs, I will remind you that today’s weather will be very pleasant for the end of February. Partly cloudy skies early will transition to mostly cloudy this afternoon and evening as the storm moves in. Temperatures will be near 40 degrees.

Morning runs of the models are becoming more favorable for snow lovers, worse for those who hate winter weather. At first it appeared that the storm would be all rain, but now expect snow too. This forecast may have to be modified later today if the models remain consistent on this formula. Right now, I am going to go with a mix of rain, snow, and even a chance of freezing rain overnight, then transitioning to all rain Tuesday morning, before going back over to snow Tuesday afternoon. 2 to 3 inches of snow is possible. However, for places along Lake Erie 4 to 9 inches are possible, and the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for these areas. It should be noted, however, there are no winter weather alerts in effect for the Youngstown area……..yet.

Stay tuned for my afternoon update around 6pm this evening as I check the models again. Until then, enjoy the afternoon and take advantage of the nice temperatures for one more day.
