WINTER STORM WARNING!

Posted by ns62590 on February 26, 2008

The purpose of this blog is to add Mahoning and Trumbull Counties into the warning. The winter weather advisory previously in effect has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. Now, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all of Northeast Ohio until 4am Wednesday.

The precipitation overnight has been all snow, and temperatures are fairly steady at 29 to 30 degrees. While temperatures may rise a little bit the remainder of the morning, potentially changing the precip to a mix of freezing rain and sleet for a short time, the snow should return quickly. Total storm accumulations across the Youngstown area may be up to 10 inches by Wednesday morning if all snow falls and if some other precip works in, 5 to 7 inches would be the total.

In addition to the snow, gusty winds of 25 to 35mph are expected to develop later this afternoon, possibly creating blizzard conditions at times, as well as drifting snow. Stay safe out there if you will be out this morning or afternoon.

Stay tuned to local TV news media for the latest on this winter storm as well as school closings and cancellations. If you must venture out this morning, give yourself plenty of extra driving time and use caution. If possible, avoid being on the road to allow for snow removal crews and emergency vehicles to occupy the roads. Stay tuned to WeatherWATCH and your favorite weather sources for the latest on this winter storm.
