Even though the snow on the ground makes it seem like it’s Christmas and not Easter, I want to wish everyone a happy Easter! For the remainder of your Easter afternoon expect to see highs near 40 degrees with partly to mostly cloudy skies. There will be a chance of a few flurries or snow showers this evening and overnight, but no accumulations are expected. Lows tonight will be in the low 20s. For your Monday, we will see mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 30s. Unsettled weather is in the forecast for the rest of the week. Have a great Easter Sunday and enjoy the afternoon with family and friends.

Well, WE DID IT!!! So far for the winter of ‘07-’08 we have seen 102.4 inches of snow thanks to about 5 to 8 inches from the recent blast of winter we had last night and this morning.
For the remainder of the night, partly cloudy skies will continue with very cold temperatures near 20 degrees. Tomorrow for your Easter, a chance of snow showers and highs near 38 degrees, just like today. Have a great evening and once again, congratulations on the first ever winter season with over 100 inches of snow!!!

Did we make it?????
Posted by ns62590 on March 22, 2008
At the stroke of Midnight this morning, we already had 1.8 inches of snow reported, so all we needed the rest of today is 1.9 inches…and I believe we have made it to 100 inches for the season! I can officially give the announcement later this afternoon after 5pm when the National Weather Service releases their climate report for the afternoon.
That being said, for your Saturday, the bulk of the snow is over, but we may see a few passing snow showers or flurries this afternoon making things a little slick. Be careful still if you will be out this morning and afternoon. We will see highs around 38 for the afternoon. As for your Easter Sunday, we will see partly cloudy skies, with the chance of a few snow showers in the afternoon hours, with highs in the mid 30s.
For the state of Ohio, this week (March 23 – 30) is Severe Weather Awareness Week. For this week, every day I will define a new term so that when severe weather strikes this spring and summer, you will be ready for action. Stay tuned for this feature in the week ahead! Other than that, have a great Saturday everyone!

SNOW ADVISORY in effect!
Posted by ns62590 on March 21, 2008
Well, I think I’m the only one in Northeastern Ohio excited about the forecast for the next 18 hours. It’s time to unleash the snowy conditions again! A clipper system which has unleashed about 6 inches of snow over the Chicago area is now progressing eastward and southward towards the Mahoning Valley. We may see a little rain or mix of rain and snow early then all snow after midnight. The snow won’t last long, and will be over Saturday morning. The snow advisory remains in effect through 9am. All we need is 3.7 inches to get 100 inches for the season!
A reminder that when the snow does begin to fall, conditions will be slippery. The snow will be heavy and wet, so use extra caution. Please be careful tonight and Saturday morning if you will be outdoors. Have a great night!

We Will Get Our 100!!!
Posted by ns62590 on March 21, 2008
Well, yes, it is Spring but this is Northeast Ohio – we don’t get it that easy. Anyway, another snowstorm is expected to work its way through the area overnight, dumping a quick accumulation of snow. Therefore, there is now a Snow Advisory in effect for Mahoning and Trumbull counties from 8pm this evening through 9am Saturday morning.
The snow should begin late this evening, perhaps mixed with a little rain early. However, as the overnight progresses, more cold air will be wrapped into the system and will make the precip all snow. This is just a quick clipper system and the snow will end Saturday morning. However, 3 to 5 inches of accumulation is expected in this time frame. And if my calculations are correct……this will give Youngstown 100 inches + for the ‘07-’08 winter season. Bring on the snow!!! Other than that, have a great day Youngstown!

More Snow This Weekend
Posted by ns62590 on March 20, 2008
While your Holy Thursday will feature mostly cloudy skies and perhaps a light snow flurry, expect some more snow showers on your Friday. A system will move from the northern Great Lakes tomorrow afternoon. We should see a light accumulation of 1 to 3 inches by Saturday morning. With the snow we received last night we only need 3.7 inches to make it to 100!!! That’s it!
Spring has begun! Although you can’t tell very much with the weather outside this afternoon. Anyway, enjoy the day. A reminder that the Mahoning River at Youngstown is still over flood stage and a flood warning remains in effect.

Is it really Easter??? or Christmas!
Posted by ns62590 on March 19, 2008
Even though Spring starts early Thursday morning, Mother Nature has other ideas. This weekend is Easter and it will look more like Christmas! Oh well, I’m not complaining one bit! Tonight the rain has changed to snow and it’s coming down very hard this evening. However, expect the heavy snow to only last a little while, tapering to snow showers overnight. However, we can see 1 to 3 inches by morning. The snow is very heavy and wet and it has accumulated on roadways very quickly. Take extra time when driving tonight and in the morning. Have a great night! 100 inches for ‘07-’08 HERE WE COME!!!!!

Rain to Become Snow
Posted by ns62590 on March 19, 2008
There is now a Flood Warning in effect for the Mahoning River at Youngstown until further notice. If you live in areas near the river, keep watch for the latest flood stages of the river.
As for the remainder of this afternoon, rain will begin spreading over the area early this afternoon and continue into the evening hours. The rain will then change to……wait for it…..SNOW!!!!!! However, expect only up to an inch accumulation if that. Expect the dreary conditions to last into Friday as more snow/rain showers are expected. Enjoy the afternoon.

Lots of Rain Tonight
Posted by ns62590 on March 18, 2008
The national weather service has issued a flood watch for our entire area through Wednesday as a large area of rain and perhaps a thunderstorm will impact our weather overnight and into Wednesday. Temperatures will be around 50 to start the day, and then fall throughout the afternoon. The precip will change to a mix of rain and snow Wednesday evening, with snow showers Wednesday night. Don’t expect much in the way of accumulations.
Those who live in the normal flood-prone areas should monitor the latest river stages and be ready to move for higher ground should flooding be observed, or a flood warning be issued. Have a good night!

Intresting Week Ahead
Posted by ns62590 on March 17, 2008
There is A LOT to talk about this week as I hinted at in my previous entry. This is just going to be an overview of the entire week. However I should mention that as the week progresses the amount of uncertainty increases, so today and tomorrow’s forecasts have a higher confidence level than, say, Friday. A flood headline will be issued later this afternoon, but I will hold that story for later. Until then, enjoy the morning and afternoon!
Today: Partly Cloudy early – transitioning to clouds later.
Tonight: Rain showers developing.
Tuesday: Heavy rain and a chance of thunderstorms.
Wednesday: Rain and a chance of thunderstorms.
Thursday: Rain and snow.
Friday: Snow (and might be enough to get close to 100.0 for the year!!! yay!!!)
