Marco Inland…Now a Depression

Posted by ns62590 on October 7, 2008

Just as small tropical systems can strengthen rapidly, they so weaken just as rapidly. Tropical Storm Marco made landfall this afternoon between Veracruz and Tuxpan, Mexico with winds of 65 mph. Now, the storm has weakened to a depression with winds of 35 mph. Marco will dissipate over the mountains of Mexico tonight into Wednesday morning.

I don’t usually report on Eastern Pacific tropical cyclones, but Hurricane Norbert is in the E Pac. with winds of 85 mph. The storm’s projected path is close to Cabo San Lucas, MX sometime this weekend, or late in the week. Since this is a popular spot for tourism, I will post updates every so often on this hurricane.

Marco to Make Landfall Today

Posted by ns62590 on October 7, 2008

Tropical Storm Marco, while still tiny, will be making landfall later today. The center, as of 8am was located about 80 miles southeast of Tuxpan, MX, and has winds of 65 mph. While not much strengthening is forecast before the storm moves inland today, it could become a hurricane for a brief time, but right now tropical storm force winds only extend outward 10 miles from the center. So, the winds will not be much of a problem. The storm will, however, bring rain amounts of up to 5 inches in spots by where the center makes landfall.
