Weaker Norbert Heading for Baja

Posted by ns62590 on October 9, 2008

NOAA Hurricane Hunters found that Hurricane Norbert has weakened dramatically today, and is now a category one hurricane with winds of 90 mph. While Norbert is expected to remain at hurricane strength through landfall on Saturday, it is expected to weaken more as it encounters the cooler Pacific waters and some wind shear later Friday, but may actually strengthen a little bit overnight depending on how the current eye-wall replacement cycle finishes up. If the eye can re-form significantly overnight, it may be able to strengthen. But this won’t be a long term change as the shear will begin to affect the storm later Friday. Therefore, places near the Baja peninsula should monitor the progress of Norbert, as hurricane watches are in affect from Puerto San Andresito and points south, and also on the east coast of Baja from Lareto and points south. This includes the city of Cabo San Lucas.
