Omar is expected to continue strengthening over the next few days and reach category two strength before striking the northeastern Caribbean Islands. This would be the worst storm to impact these areas for quite some time. After this, Omar will move eastward and northward towards the open ocean, where it will likely merge with a cold front and become extratropical.
Meanwhile, weak and disorganized Tropical Depression Sixteen is located over the western Caribbean Sea, about 165 miles north-northwest of the Honduras/Nicaragua border. The depression is expected to hug the coastline before making landfall in about 2 to 3 days. It has the potential to become a tropical storm, and if it did; would be named Paloma. However, this is only possible should the storm stay over water. If it moves any south of its track than it is on now, it will be over land and therefore not be able to strengthen. A tropical storm warning is in effect from the Honduras/Nicaragua border west to Limon. A tropical storm watch is in effect from Limon to Belize City, Belieze.
