For those of you who aren’t fond of the snow, my last post may have been a little disturbing. However, you have no need to fear as the models have come into agreement of bringing the center of the next storm system into western Ohio, putting us in the warm sector of the storm. This will allow most of the precipitation Sunday and Sunday night to be rain. Nevertheless, snow will wrap around on the back side of the storm Monday and bring light snow to the area. It is too early to determine snow amounts, but 2 to 4 inches is possible, but nothing major is anticipated. For your Saturday night on the town, we will have partly cloudy skies, and temperatures this evening will be in the middle 30s, and drop down to a low of 28 degrees by morning. Have a great night, its a wonderful night for a stroll through the town!

Interesting Sunday
Posted by ns62590 on November 29, 2008
After a decent Friday, Saturday will feature mostly cloudy skies, with highs around 41 degrees. However, Sunday’s weather situation looks tricky, and we might have the season’s first official winter storm (not related to lake effect snow). Sunday’s highs will be in the 40s, so any precipitation during Sunday afternoon will be just rain. However, as Sunday becomes Sunday night and Monday, the precipitation will become all snow, and we could end up with some decent snowfall accumulations, with the lake effect kicking in behind the storm system. Therefore, further forecasts will be monitored by Youngstown WeatherWATCH in conjunction with the National Weather Service, so stay tuned for the latest. Until then, have a great Saturday!

Lows overnight will drop to near 26 degrees, but will rebound nicely to around 41 for Thursday’s highs. The next shot at precipitation comes Friday afternoon and the type may be a mix of rain and snow, so get that shopping done early; everyone knows that the stores open early enough! More on that part of the story tomorrow. Have a great and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Winter Weather Advisory
Posted by ns62590 on November 25, 2008
The National Weather Service has placed Mahoning county under a winter weather advisory until noon Wednesday. 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected this evening and overnight before the snow tapers off on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Those of you travelling tonight and in the morning on Wednesday should use extra caution. Icy patches from this weekend’s rain can also develop on the roadways and walking surfaces. Have a safe night Youngstown.

Back to Winter
Posted by ns62590 on November 25, 2008
As cold air advection comes into the region overnight and into Tuesday, we will see some snow showers heading our way. The snow will pile up only about an inch or so Tuesday but we may see 2 to 3 inches Tuesday night. This doesn’t seem to be as big as last week’s event, but it will definitely be enough to slow things down this busy travel week. Be careful out there tomorrow everyone. Highs will be near 34 degrees.

New Week, Same Ol’ Weather
Posted by ns62590 on November 23, 2008
As we begin this holiday week, we will have rain to contend with. Monday should begin dry but by afternoon, expect periods of rain (some heavy) to affect the area, as highs top out around 40 degrees. The rain will change to snow late tomorrow into Wednesday, as we can see another round of lake effect snow accumulations of a few inches by Thanksgiving. Have a great Monday!

Nice Sunday
Posted by ns62590 on November 23, 2008
Sunday will start out very cold as temperatures will dip down to around 14 degrees for the overnight lows. However, as we head throughout the day tomorrow temperatures will rebound to around 39 degrees, much warmer than the last few days. However, don’t get used to it as another round of nasty weather is on the horizon for Monday and Tuesday. Monday we will see some rain as temperatures warm into the 40s for the afternoon. However, once cold air becomes advected into the region, that will change over to snow. This forecast will have to be monitored so keep it here for the latest. But until then, enjoy Sunday’s beautiful weather!!!

12 More Hours
Posted by ns62590 on November 22, 2008
After a week of lake effect snow, we have about 12 more hours of snow. Overnight tonight into Saturday morning should be the end of the snow for awhile. However, Saturday will be mostly cloudy and cold with highs near 28 degrees. Saturday night skies will become partly cloudy as temperatures fall to near 15 degrees but on Sunday we will see some sunshine as temperatures warm (or are warmer than now) to near 34 degrees. A lake effect snow advisory remains in effect through 4am Saturday. However, the slick road conditions will remain through the morning, so be careful and give yourself extra time until the roads are cleared.

Snow Advisory in Effect
Posted by ns62590 on November 20, 2008
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY for Mahoning County until 4am Saturday. We have seen scattered snow showers this afternoon, but a trough of low pressure will swing through northeastern Ohio this evening, creating better banding features off of Lake Erie, which will help increase the snowfall overnight. We will see 2 to 3 inches on the ground by Friday morning, with an additional 1 to 3 inches tomorrow before the snow tapers off late tomorrow night into Saturday morning, leaving storm totals of 4 to 6 inches. It is important to remember in lake effect snow that the weather conditions can change rapidly. Many areas report heavy snow while in other areas just a few miles away, no snow may be falling. Be prepared for this while driving and stay safe out there over the next few days. Keep it here for the latest on this winter weather situation.

Decent Snowstorm Possible
Posted by ns62590 on November 19, 2008
If it was January, the post here wouldn’t sound so bad. However, it’s only November, so the storm that will come through Thursday night and Friday may be somewhat significant. A cold front originating from Alberta Canada, otherwise known of as Alberta clippers, will be swinging down Thursday night into Friday morning. Behind the front will set up a large area of snow showers. Ahead of the front Thursday evening and overnight we can see 1 to 3 inches of snow, with another 2 to 3 inches on Friday. So, before Friday is done, we may have up to 5 inches or so of snow on the ground. We will have to watch this for any differences over the next 24 hours. Keep it tuned to Youngstown WeatherWATCH, your winter weather authority, for the latest.
