A weak low pressure system will swing through the area overnight tonight into Wednesday morning, but won’t bring us much in the way of snow accumulations. Most locations in the Mahoning County area will only see up to an inch of accumulation. We will see breezy conditions as well, as winds will be sustained around 30 mph at times overnight into Wednesday morning. Windy conditions will prevail for the afternoon, possibly gusting to 35 or 40 mph at times, but will only be sustained around 20. For your New Year’s Eve celebrations tomorrow night, it will be partly cloudy, but cold as temperatures around midnight will be in the upper teens.

Another Breezy Night
Posted by ns62590 on December 29, 2008
Windy conditions will be the prevailing weather story tonight, as no precipitation is expected. Temperatures will drop to 28 degrees by Tuesday morning, but will rebound to near 40 tomorrow. Tomorrow night, we will see our first decent snow for awhile – we may get 2 inches or so. But that’s a story for tomorrow’s post. Have a great Tuesday!

Clearing Out
Posted by ns62590 on December 28, 2008
We had some rain overnight, and even some counties to our west had some severe thunderstorm warnings overnight. However, the rain is now over and we will see a decent day today. Dry air has worked its way into the area and we will see sunshine for the majority of your Sunday afternoon. However, our high temperature for today has already been reached, and temperatures will fall throughout the day today into the middle 30s. Windy conditions will be with us this morning and early afternoon, and begin to diminish thereafter. Have a great Sunday!

Record Highs..then Storms
Posted by ns62590 on December 27, 2008
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, today’s weather will be near record levels as high temperatures are expected to climb into the 60s. These extremely warm temperatures are due to an advection of warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of an approaching cold front. With the passage of the front tomorrow morning, much cooler air is expected to funnel in. However, with the change in temperature will come two main stories; one of which is heavy rain and a chance of thunderstorms and the second will be the windy conditions expected.
Any time after midnight through late Sunday morning is fair game for showers and possible thunderstorms. While we will not see any severe weather, certainly lightning and heavy rain are possible. Winds will be sustained from 20 to 30 mph late tonight through the day Sunday. Therefore, the National Weather Service has placed our area under a wind advisory from 9pm tonight through 9pm Sunday, as winds could gust to 40 and 50 mph during these time frames. Have a great weekend everyone! Go Steelers!

More Rain
Posted by ns62590 on December 26, 2008
The forecast for the next two days is more of a Spring forecast, not like the first week of Winter. Today will be rather chilly and damp, as highs will be near 40 degrees, but with rain. More showers are expected overnight, and into Saturday. However, Saturday’s high temperatures will be near records as our forecast high is in the mid 60s. The record high is 60 degrees, so if our forecast is correct we will break the old record. However, we will still run the chance of some rain showers. Enjoy the afternoon everyone!!!

Christmas Day Forecast
Posted by ns62590 on December 25, 2008
Merry Christmas to everyone out there this morning. While it may not be the white Christmas many of us look forward to, I want to wish you the happiest of holidays. For the early part of the afternoon, mostly cloudy skies will reign, but expect to see a few peeks of sunshine later towards the evening. It will stay cold, however, as high temperatures are expected to be around 29 degrees. For your Friday and your returns or if you’re using those gift cards, expect to battle some more rain showers as highs will get into the 40s. Enjoy the time with your families this holiday season! Have a great Christmas and other celebrations today!

Holiday Forecast!
Posted by ns62590 on December 24, 2008
Well, we have made it to Christmas Eve and it’s time for the all important holiday forecast, and I’m sure its not what people want to hear. For today, we will see off and on rain, some of it heavy at times this afternoon. This will be ahead of a cold front that will push through the area tonight. After the passage of the front as we head into Christmas morning, the leftover moisture may bring us a few flurries, but we won’t see much more than a dusting of snowfall if any. Today’s highs will be around 51, so it’s more like early Spring. However, for Christmas day we will only reach highs near 30. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Winter Weather Advisory…Again!
Posted by ns62590 on December 23, 2008
The next storm system has made its way toward the Valley and will bring with it snow showers this afternoon. However, as warm air is infiltrated into the area tonight into Wednesday morning, the precipitation will change to a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. The snow and sleet accumulations are expected to be light; about an inch or so, and the ice accumulations should stay below a tenth of an inch. Therefore, a winter weather advisory has been issued from 6pm tonight through 7am Wednesday. However, as we head into your Christmas Eve, temperatures will warm well above freezing and we will see rain all day Wednesday. Take caution while driving this evening and overnight until the temperatures warm.

Another Cold Night
Posted by ns62590 on December 23, 2008
Even though Winter just started Sunday, today was by far the coldest day of the Fall/Winter season thus far. Tonight will be no exception, as lows will dip to around 6 above. For your Tuesday we will see temperatures much “warmer” as highs approach 30 degrees. Tuesday night will be wintry as the next system works in from the West.

Frigid with Snow
Posted by ns62590 on December 21, 2008
As if you didn’t know already, it is frigid outside tonight! Lows will drop down to around -5 degrees. This combined with winds of 15 to 25 mph will create wind chills between -20 and -24 degrees. Therefore, our wind chill advisory will remain in effect overnight through noon Monday. I don’t have to say this, but please cover up all exposed skin if you will be outdoors overnight and tomorrow morning and early afternoon. We will “warm” up all the way to 17 degrees on Monday. We may see some snow showers overnight; adding up to an inch or two. Stay warm out there everyone!
