This sounds like a headline from a psychological website, not a meteorological one, doesn’t it? No, it really is a weather article, and I’m hoping I can relieve fears after the post yesterday about a major winter storm that has the potential to affect us next week. No doubt the storm will come, but probably not here. Computer models today take the storm system a bit farther east towards the big cities of the Eastern Seaboard, bringing flooding rains to the I-95 corridor and heavy snows to the interior northeast. We, on this track, will be in the wrap around moisture, and shouldn’t see a significant event. However, these models still can change since it is a few days away, but I hope I can at least calm your fears. Please stay tuned to the latest from Youngstown WeatherWATCH on this developing storm. We will have a BEAUTIFUL weekend, with sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday, temperatures in the low 30s Saturday and in the low 40s Sunday. Enjoy it!

Few Snow Showers..Major Concern Next Week
Posted by ns62590 on January 29, 2009
After the snow and ice we had this week, the last thing everyone wants to hear is that another major winter storm will be heading our way. While this is not set in stone yet, there will be a potential for a dangerous winter storm to affect the valley the beginning of next week. I’m not going to go into any details this early in the forecasting period, but we will be monitoring the latest forecasting models that come out and keep you informed of the latest. As for your TGIF, we will see a few snow flurries and snow showers, but accumulations will only range an inch or so. High temperatures will be in the mid 20s. Have a great Friday everyone!

Storm Report!
Posted by ns62590 on January 28, 2009
We had a nasty day here in the Mahoning Valley as our second major winter storm dumped between 6 and 8 inches of snow, with up to a quarter inch of ice in places. While our winter storm warning will be expiring at 5pm this afternoon, that will not diminish the threat to driving this evening. If you can avoid travelling this evening, please do as the road crews are still working to get the roads passable. If you have your storm reports, I would like to hear from you. Leave me a comment to this post, and I will add them to the comments listings. If you absolutely must be out this evening, please use EXTREME CAUTION! Roads are still icy and snow covered. We will dry out this evening, with the chance of only a few flurries. Have a safe night out there Youngstown!!!

Winter Storm Warning through Wednesday
Posted by ns62590 on January 27, 2009
The second major snowstorm of this winter season will be affecting the valley over the next 24 to 30 hours. A low pressure system, currently located over the southern Plains, will move northeastward over the southeast and up the eastern corridor and spread a mix of rain, snow, and mixed precipitation through the eastern half of the nation.
For us here in the Mahoning Valley, we will see mostly snow with an outside shot at a little bit of sleet or freezing rain mixed in. The snow will begin late this afternoon, and continue into the overnight period, and continue through much of Wednesday morning, before tapering off Wednesday afternoon and evening. 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected tonight, with an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow Wednesday. This will create storm totals of 5 to 9 inches of snow.
As stated in my winter weather terminology page, a winter storm warning means that heavy snow, sleet and/or ice will create dangerous outdoor conditions. If you will be out during the warning time, use extra caution. If you don’t have to be out during the storm, stay off the roads for emergency vehicles and snow removal crews. Another Snowstorm Coming
Posted by ns62590 on January 26, 2009
It seems like just a few days ago, we had our big snowstorm that dumped between 10 and 14 inches of snow in the valley. However, we have another significant winter storm that is moving from the south towards the area, and will bring us another round of heavy snowfall on Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. Therefore, a Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for this time frame. 5 to 8 inches of snow is possible by Wednesday night, with maybe a little sleet or freezing rain mixed in, should the storm move a little bit north than currently expected. I will fine-tune this forecast tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned. Remember, a winter storm watch means that significant snow and/or mixed precipitation has the POTENTIAL to affect the area. Stay tuned for further updates, and other winter weather alerts.

Downright Cold!
Posted by ns62590 on January 24, 2009
Saturday showed us that we really are in northeast Ohio, and our 40 degree weather can’t last too long. Today’s high was 29 degrees, set around 1:40am this morning, and then it was all downhill from there. Currently, as of 11pm Saturday, our temperature was 6 degrees. We will be heading down to a low of -3 degrees tonight. We will have light winds, so wind chills will be only from -6 to -10 degrees. Sunday’s highs will be around 18 degrees, so stay warm out there. We may see a snow shower or two, but nothing major is expected.

Another Warm Day
Posted by ns62590 on January 22, 2009
If you really enjoyed Thursday, Friday will be great! Highs will approach 40 degrees, the warmest weather we have seen in quite some time. However, we will have a quick return to reality as we will have a brutally cold weekend ahead of us. Saturday’s and Sunday’s highs will get only into the mid teens, while the lows will be between 2 and 5 degrees. We may see a little mix of rain and snow Friday night, so be aware of this. Other than that, during the afternoon, we will see partly cloudy skies. Enjoy the brief warm-up. Have a great Friday!!!

Beautiful Thursday
Posted by ns62590 on January 21, 2009
I haven’t been able to put the word ‘beautiful’ in my headlines for awhile, so might as well do it for tomorrow, because we will have partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 30s. Enjoy it because this weekend, some cooler weather is expected.

Tonight will be another very cold night in the Mahoning Valley as temperatures drop into the single digits overnight. We may see a few nuisance snow flurries overnight, but nothing major is expected. For your Wednesday, it will remain cold as highs will only get to about 20 degrees. Enjoy your Wednesday, everyone!

Few Snow Showers
Posted by ns62590 on January 19, 2009
Over the next 24 hours, we will see a few scattered snow showers, but nothing major is expected in ways of accumulation. It will be another cold night and day tomorrow, as we will wake up to temperatures around 10, and only get to about 20. We will see warmer temperatures later in the week, however. So that is something to look forward to as we head back to work and school this week. Have a good Tuesday!
