The National Weather Service in Cleveland has placed our entire area under a winter storm watch from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. An Alberta clipper will work its way down into the Great Lakes later tomorrow and will merge with an area of low pressure coming from the southern U.S. This system will tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and dump a good amount of snow on the area. Depending on the exact track of the low, we may see six to eight inches of snow by Saturday afternoon. If the low tracks a little different, we may see a period of sleet and freezing rain – keeping the snow totals lower. However, right now it appears that the majority of this event will be all snow.
Remember that a winter storm watch only means significant winter weather is possible. As we get closer to the storm, forecasts will be able to determine exact snowfall forecast amounts. Stay tuned to Youngstown WeatherWATCH, MVRed.com, and other local news media for the latest on this developing winter storm situation. For your Thursday night, we will see a few snow flurries or snow showers – but only an inch of accumulation is expected by Friday morning, if that.
