Our first major snowstorm of the season is on the way to the valley and will begin to spread snow through the region beginning later this afternoon. However, the main area of moderate to heavy snow won’t be until overnight tonight through most of Saturday afternoon. The storm is being caused by a clipper system that will tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. While the exact track of the low will determine final snowfall totals, confidence in storm totals of 6 to 10 inches of snow is high. A winter storm warning means that severe winter weather is expected to occur within the next 12 to 24 hours. If you will be travelling late tonight and Saturday, use extra caution. However, once the heavy snow begins, travel will not be recommended. Stay tuned to Youngstown WeatherWATCH, MVRed.com, and local TV news media for the latest information on this winter storm.
