Dangerous Wind Chills

Posted by ns62590 on January 14, 2009

While the light snow will continue overnight, the main story over the next 24 to 48 hours will be the extreme cold. Temperatures Thursday night into Friday will be the coldest air we have seen in northeast Ohio in over a decade. We will stay between 6 and 9 degrees tonight through Thursday afternoon. Thursday night’s low temperature will be -8 degrees, and with 15 mph winds, we can see wind chills as low as -25 degrees. A wind chill advisory will be in effect all the way through Saturday morning. As mentioned on my winter weather terms page, the criteria for a wind chill warning is anything colder than -25, so if this occurs, the advisory may have to be upgraded. But, whether we are under an advisory or a warning doesn’t change the fact that it will be very cold over the next few days. Please be smart when you are outside, and if you don’t have to be out – don’t. Make sure the kids are bundled up at the bus stop, and a list of school closings and cancellations can be found at http://schoolclosings.wkbn.com/ Be safe out there Youngstown!!!
