Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

Posted by ns62590 on June 25, 2009

Today’s weather will be your perfect example of a summer day. We will have the summer sun bringing highs to around 88 degrees. However, the instability will allow for some late afternoon thunderstorms. These thunderstorms have the potential to become severe. The SPC has placed our entire area under a slight risk of severe thunderstorms. The risk will not be extremely widespread, but the chance is there. The best time for severe weather will be late afternoon through the evening. However, it will not be an all-day washout, so take time to enjoy the summer sun and just keep an eye to the sky.

Sippin Lemonade; Relaxing by the Pool

Posted by ns62590 on June 23, 2009

The headline of today’s article pretty much sums up how we should be spending the next two days in the Mahoning Valley. For today, temperatures will reach 83 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Wednesday, however, will be probably the warmest day of 2009 thus far as sunny to partly cloudy skies will prevail with temperatures climbing all the way to the upper 80s – topping out around 88 degrees. The UVĀ ratings will be high so make sure you use a lot of sunscreen should you be one of the fortunate ones to go enjoy the pool the next few days. Summertime is really here now in Youngstown! The next threat of rain will be on Thursday.

Moderate Risk for Severe Weather

Posted by ns62590 on June 19, 2009

While we will see some rain and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder this morning, this afternoon and evening may be the biggest threat for severe weather this spring thus far. We have been placed in the moderate risk for severe weather today, as a very strong system will push through the area. The main threat today will be damaging winds. However, some small hail and a few isolated tornadoes are possible throughout Ohio and Indiana. Torrential rains are also expected today with any thunderstorm that develops. Therefore, the National Weather Service has placed Mahoning county under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH through Saturday morning. Keep an eye to the sky today and monitor the latest forecasts from your local TV news media.

Nasty Night

Posted by ns62590 on June 17, 2009

This afternoon has proved to be a nasty one as we have had a few rounds of thunderstorms. More of the same will be on the agenda tonight. Mahoning County has been placed under a flood advisory for the evening because of the tremendous amounts of rain we have received this afternoon. There will continue to be the threat for severe thunderstorms as well, with small hail and some windy conditions during the thunderstorms. However, I think the continuing problem will be very heavy rain. Please watch for ponding of water on roadways, especially in low drainage areas. Do not drive your car through flooded roadways. If you come across an area of high water on the road, turn around and find an alternate route. Be safe out there this evening everyone.

Three Days

Posted by ns62590 on June 17, 2009

The next three days will be really busy for the weather fanatics. A warm front will place itself over the Ohio Valley, and will be the trigger point for showers and thunderstorms as a series of disturbances will ride over the front. As these disturbances come through the area we will see the risk of showers and thunderstorms. During the afternoon and evening hours these thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with hail and winds being the main threats. Keep it here for the latest.
