Hurricane Season 2009 Begins!
Posted by ns62590 on June 1, 2009
Today is June 1 and the first day of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season! Even though today is the first day, we have already had one tropical depression. However, this never became a tropical storm, so the A name is still next on the list. This year the first name is Ana.
I never like to make predictions for the season. Many people look at the projected numbers and say, well if there is only 10 storms projected this year, I don’t have to worry. Nevertheless, NOAA’s hurricane outlook released a few weeks ago has 9 to 14 named storms; 4 to 7 hurricanes; and 1 to 3 major hurricanes. MY official predictions are 13 named stormsĀ 5 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes!
Anyone in hurricane prone areas should be equally ready for a devastating storm every day of hurricane season. Even if there is only one named storm in the season, it could be a Hurricane Katrina-type storm. Here at Youngstown WeatherWATCH, we will keep you informed on every storm that forms in the Atlantic Basin now through November 30th.
