Another Great Weekend

Posted by ns62590 on June 12, 2009

This weekend will be just like last weekend, because we will see sunny to partly cloudy skies each day, with temperatures right about average. Today, once the fog burns off this morning, skies will become sunny this afternoon. High temperatures will be around 76 degrees. Enjoy it, especially after the wonderful rainy day we had yesterday…(hint sarcasm). Have a great TGIF!

Still 50-50

Posted by ns62590 on June 10, 2009

Our forecast the past few days has been scattered showers. Today most of the rain stayed to our north and south. For your Thursday, expect much of the same with about a 50-50 shot at seeing an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. However, I think tomorrow will be the best shot that we will see some precipitation. We will see temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, or about average as we only have a little more than a week before the start of summer.

Gloomy Evening

Posted by ns62590 on June 8, 2009

The scattered showers and embedded rumbles of thunder will be with us, and actually increase in probability this afternoon and evening. An isolated severe cell is possible as well, however, the majority of the severe weather will remain to our west and south. It will be humid as well, and low temperatures overnight will dip down to only the middle 60s. Tomorrow will be much nicer, with only a few showers possible in the morning. Highs will be around 77 degrees with much less humidity.

Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday will all be great days to head outside and do some work or just to enjoy the weekend. Every day we will see partly cloudy skies. Friday will be the coolest as temperatures will top out just under 70 degrees. Saturday we will see temperatures just under 80, and just above 80 for Sunday!

Another Round

Posted by ns62590 on June 2, 2009

A few scattered severe storms rolled through the area last night. The only severe weather report was a few downed trees in Portage County; near Ravenna. This afternoon, as skies clear from this morning’s showers, we may set the stage for more thunderstorms later tonight. We may see a few showers this afternoon as well. Therefore, keep an eye to the sky for possible storms late this afternoon – more likely this evening. Highs today will be around 74 degrees.

Slight Risk of Severe Weather

Posted by ns62590 on June 1, 2009

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across northern Ohio later this evening and into the early overnight. The main risk will be some small hail or gusty winds. Right now the radar is all clear, so just keep an eye to the sky later tonight. We have another risk tomorrow as well. Keep it here for the latest information.

Hurricane Season 2009 Begins!

Posted by ns62590 on June 1, 2009

Today is June 1 and the first day of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season! Even though today is the first day, we have already had one tropical depression. However, this never became a tropical storm, so the A name is still next on the list. This year the first name is Ana.

I never like to make predictions for the season. Many people look at the projected numbers and say, well if there is only 10 storms projected this year, I don’t have to worry. Nevertheless, NOAA’s hurricane outlook released a few weeks ago has 9 to 14 named storms; 4 to 7 hurricanes; and 1 to 3 major hurricanes. MY official predictions are 13 named stormsĀ 5 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes!

Anyone in hurricane prone areas should be equally ready for a devastating storm every day of hurricane season. Even if there is only one named storm in the season, it could be a Hurricane Katrina-type storm. Here at Youngstown WeatherWATCH, we will keep you informed on every storm that forms in the Atlantic Basin now through November 30th.
