While most of the summer so far has been relatively cool, with only one recorded 90 degree day thus far; we will see a very warm day here in the Mahoning Valley for your Tuesday. Partly cloudy skies will prevail although a stray afternoon or evening storm is possible. Temperatures will be around 85 degrees.

Isolated Storms
Posted by ns62590 on July 26, 2009
Tonight should be a pretty nice night, however there are a few isolated showers and thunderstorms around the area. However, they should clear out by midnight as the source of energy in the atmosphere is relaxing. We will get down to the lower 60s overnight. The mercury will climb to around 80 on Monday, with an outside risk of another isolated shower or storm in the afternoon. But other than that, expect partly cloudy skies!!! Enjoy the start of your new week!

Skies Are Threatnin’
Posted by ns62590 on July 25, 2009
After a beautiful Friday, Saturday is shaping up to be not so nice as a storm system will be spreading in clouds and precipitation later this afternoon and evening. We will see some scattered showers around the area this morning, but the main rounds of weather will be later today. Some of the storms this afternoon may be strong to severe, so keep a watchful eye to the sky. The best chances of severe weather will be any time from after 1 or 2pm through this evening.

Cloudy then Cool
Posted by ns62590 on July 17, 2009
For your Friday, we will see cloudy skies with scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm as highs top out just shy of 80 degrees. However, the main news story in terms of weather today will be the cool air mass that will park itself over the area for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s highs will only be about 70 degrees, and only a few degrees warmer for Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!!!

Heading Towards Fall???
Posted by ns62590 on July 16, 2009
Today’s weather will be picture perfect as the humidity will be on the down-slope as we head through the day. Highs today will be around 83 degrees as partly cloudy skies will swell overhead. There can be a risk for an outside sprinkle or shower, but its only about a 20% chance. However, the big news story will be the temperatures over the next several days. It will feel more like fall in the air as temperatures on Saturday may not even make it to 70 degrees. I will have more on this story later. Have a great Thursday!

After a day of some thunderstorms this morning and a rather humid afternoon, Sunday will be a much more pleasant day. The cold front responsible for the storms this morning will be moving through the Valley overnight and will leave us with much more bearable weather conditions for your Sunday. High temperatures will top out just below 80 degrees with partly cloudy skies and low humidity. Enjoy!

What does this Summer Mean???
Posted by ns62590 on July 10, 2009
So far this summer has featured many days with temperatures below average for not only us in Ohio, but for a large portion of the northeastern states. I know the official start of winter isn’t for 163 days, but some people have asked me what, if anything, the summer weather can predict for the winter ahead. From reading a few articles and searching some records, what I can say to answer the question is that there isn’t really a good correlation between summer and winter weather. There have been summers in the past with below average temperatures and then the winter was rather warm, and vice versa. Perhaps the most influential aspect of predicting the winter comes from the water temperatures in the Pacific Ocean – referred to by meteorologists as El Nino and La Nina. This year we are in a developing El Nino stage, which typically would bring a winter with less wintry-precipitation for the Great Lakes and Northern U.S. So, in short – enjoy the summer and don’t worry about winter right now!
Actually we will continue to be right about at our average high for the next week. We will be right around 80 degrees over the next few days, with the chance of rain only on Saturday. There will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Keep an eye to the sky if anything threatens. Have a great weekend everyone!
